QLaw Foundation Legal Clinic Volunteer Needs

The QLaw Foundation GLBT Legal Clinic is looking for new volunteers. The GLBT Legal Clinic provides free legal services specifically designed to address the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and couples. The Legal Clinic is expanding it's efforts in community education and publicity for the clinic and we are currently seeking additional members the subcommittees that are responsible for these activities, as well as volunteers for scheduling appointments and staffing the monthly clinic.  To volunteer or join a subcommittee, please email .  Please forward to anyone who would be interested in volunteering. See below for details: 

 

Education Subcommittee

The education subcommittee is responsible for collecting resources for the legal clinic attorneys and clients.  In addition the subcommittee is planning on expanding its function to include providing educational outreach to the broader community, including panels about legal issues impacting our community. 

There are a variety of was to get involved: 

• Join the subcommittee, monthly meetings and work on specific projects either updating materials or organizing panels; 
• Attorneys interested in creating/providing already created materials for the legal clinic; and
• Attorneys interested in supervising law students working on research projects for the attorneys and clients

Publicity Subcommittee 

The publicity subcommittee is responsible for advertising the clinic to ensure that clients are aware of the clinic.  This includes creating a public presence through print and online advertising.  Members of the publicity subcommittee can be attorneys or nonattorneys.  Most of the publicity subcommittee meetings are monthly call-in meetings.  

 

Phone Intake Volunteer

The phone intake volunteer answers the clinic phone line once a week (Tuesdays between noon and 3pm) and schedules clients for the GLBT Legal Clinic.  The ideal candidate would be a law student or a legal staffer interested in interacting directly with GLBT clients and learning about the most pressing legal issues for the GLBT community.  The phone intake volunteer also has the opportunity to work closely with volunteer attorneys at the GLBT Legal Clinic and help ensure the clinic is meeting the GLBT community's legal needs.

 

Law Student and Staff Clinic Volunteers

The law student and staff clinic volunteers attend the clinic once each quarter and conduct intakes with clients, as well as help the clinic run smoothly overall.  Volunteers learn about legal issues facing clients, and interact with volunteer attorneys.
