2010 FallTacular Brings in the Funk and the Funds! 

 

 

More than 150 GLBT lawyers, legal professionals, and supporters filled the Palace Ballroom on October 14, 2010 for the QLaw Foundation’s fifth annual FallTacular event.  With guests enjoying live entertainment from funk band SolBird and fabulous food from Tom Douglas, the event was a huge hit, raising over $10,000 to support QLaw Foundation’s programs for Washington’s GLBT community. 

 

QLaw Foundation President Sam Castic opened the evening’s program by highlighting the Foundation’s four main projects:  (1) a Grant Program that enables law students to spend a summer working on GLBT or HIV/AIDS legal issues; (2) a monthly GLBT Legal Clinic that provides free legal advice to clients with GLBT legal issues; (3) an Education Program that seeks to disseminate knowledge about legal issues to the GLBT community in Washington; and (4) an At-Risk Youth program that works to support GLBT youth and organizations. 

 

UW law student Elliot Kennedy spoke movingly about working this past summer as a QLaw Foundation grantee at the National Center for Transgender Equality in Washington, DC.  GLBT Legal Clinic volunteer Quita St. John followed with a rousing update about the clinic, which has served over 120 clients to date.
