Legal Issues in the Golden Years for LGBT people
In January 2012, the QLaw Foundation sponsored a panel to help GLBT people understand the legal issues they may face as they age. Judi O’Kelly of Lambda Legal, Lisa Brodoff, Professor of Law at Seattle University Professor of Law; and Amy Freeman of Columbia Legal Services were the expert attorney panelists. The panel was moderated by June Krumpotick a paralegal at Legal Voice. Panelists discussed legal preparations for death and incapacity, long term care issues, effect of Federal Defense of Marriage Act, elder abuse issues and other types of discrimination against LGBT elders.
