Seventh Annual QLaw Foundation FallTacular

The seventh annual QLaw Foundation FallTacular was a huge success!  On Tuesday, November 13, more than 150 lawyers, judges, and community members came together at Portage Bay Café in South Lake Union to celebrate Washington’s approval of marriage equality and - of course - to support the QLaw Foundation’s programs. 

Together we raised over $15,000!  These funds will help ensure that the GLBT Legal Clinic can continue to provide free legal services, that more law students will be able to pursue summer internships benefiting the GLBT community and people living with HIV/AIDS, and that the QLaw Foundation can continue to provide free educational events on legal issues that affect the GLBT community.

QLaw Foundation board member Laurie Carlsson welcomed the crowd and highlighted the organization’s achievements - including that the GLBT Legal Clinic has served more than 350 clients since it began, and that we were able to provide summer grants for three law students this year.  We then heard from University of Washington law student Darcy Kues, who explained how support from the QLaw Foundation made it possible for her to afford to live in New York City this summer while she interned with the Center for HIV Law and Policy.  Finally, GLBT Legal Clinic client Ryan Blackhawk told us how the Clinic helped him change the gender listed on his out-of-state birth certificate.

Guests enjoyed entertainment from the Rainbow City Band’s Purple Passion Jazz combo and wonderful food from Portage Bay Café. 

The QLaw Foundation’s board members and volunteers are deeply thankful for generous support from sponsors and community members.  We look forward to another great year of bridging the gap between the GLBT community and the legal profession.
