QLaw 2018 Bar Prep Scholarship

The mission of QLaw is to serve as a voice for LGBTQ lawyers and other legal professionals in the state of Washington, on issues relating to diversity and equality in the legal profession - in the courts, and under the law. To support our mission, QLaw is committed to assisting graduating law students with the costs associated with bar preparation.  

The amount and number of scholarships will be determined by QLaw, and may vary, ranging from $1,000 up to the full cost of bar preparation. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on various criteria, including past success and/or future dedication in supporting QLaw’s mission. Scholarship recipients will be notified prior to and are expected to attend QLaw’s Annual Banquet on April 13, 2018 (complimentary ticket for attendance will be provided to each scholarship recipient). 

Deadline for applications: 5PM PST, Monday, March 26, 2018.  Recipients will be notified by April 6, 2018.

Eligibility:  Enrolled students at one of the three Washington State law schools who:

• will be graduating in May/June 2018 or December 2018;
• have applied/will be applying to take the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) and the Washington Law Component (WLC) for July 2018 or February 2019; and 
• will not be receiving a stipend, waiver, or other contribution (of any amount) toward your bar exam preparation expenses from a third party (including, but not limited to, an individual, law firm, organization, or bar preparation company).  *If you are presently a bar preparation company student representative, you may still be eligible for this scholarship if you have other financial needs.

Required Application Materials:

• Completed Application Form
• Resume
• Personal Statement of no more than 1,000 words, discussing your past success and/or future plans to support QLaw’s mission and goals after graduation, and how the awarded amount would make a difference in your present situation.
• Law School Transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
