2014 Summer Grant Recipient

2014 QLaw Scholar Michael Gerbec, a rising 2L at the University of Washington School of Law, will be working at Seattle Community Law Center over the summer, helping Seattle-area homeless LGBTQ adults apply for social security benefits.  As a student in American history and Latin, Michael thought his path might take him toward a career in academia – that is until he saw firsthand the power of the law to change people’s lives. Michael hopes to use his legal education to be “the seed of change” and help create a better life for the homeless LGBT population of Seattle. He hopes that his involvement in this project will help SCLC to increase its focus on the LGBTQ community in the long term

The Summer Public Interest Grant Program funds innovative public interest projects that benefit the GLBT community and/or people living with HIV/AIDS.  The program helps ensure unmet legal needs are recognized and prioritized on an on-going basis and that the next generation of legal advocates for GLBT rights develops the skills necessary to develop careers in the public interest.
